Yesterday I mentioned what an awesome experience it was to stand outside the entrance where the Holy Family stayed when they fled to Egypt. Today was just as awesome! This morning our group was able to worship at Jesus Light of the World Deaf Church in Cairo. I was also blessed to be able to spend time with many of the children who attend the Deaf school there.*(See picture). We were able to visit the classrooms, interact with the children...even play a game of soccer with them! During the worship service two of the children led in prayer in Arabic sign language while the pastor interpreted. It was a beautiful and moving experience.
In the afternoon we visited the All Saints Cathedral, Episcopal Diocese of Egypt where we were able to be in dialogue with two Episcopal priests.
While the rest of the group went back for worship tonight, a few of us decided to hang back at the hotel to rest. A number of us have been experiencing "stomach" issues the last few days. Tomorrow is a long bus ride to Sinai and we wanted to get over our "ailments" before the journey. Tonight is our last night in Cairo. Beginning tomorrow evening we will be in St. Katherine's Village in Sinai. From my understanding internet is limited. I will try to post as I can.
See you in Sinai!
Jeff
